This month of July 2009 I have a listing on eBay for a jewish song performed in a persian 45rpm by Aref. I
know that the song was a hebrew song originally but didn't know what the name of the hebrew song was. The persian lyrics Koochooloo was a completely new lyrics and has nothing to do with the lyrics of the original song and as it happened in persian industry the songwriting credit simply read: Hebrew song .
Thankfully I met another fellow expat american in Madrid like me called Joseph who knew the song title and played it live for me on violin. The song was a hit in Israel in 1967 and is called Yerushalayim shel zahav or Jerusalem the Golden. Apparently it was made famous by a singer called Chava Alberstein.
