Avoiding Nokia's Way: Software to extract content out of .NBU Nokia Backups

If you have recent models of Nokia cell phone and you have tried backing up, you may realize that their annoying PC-Suite software doesnt allow you to go and extract individual content. Instead it only allows you to backup the phone, but this backup is a single file with the weird format of .NBU . This is very annoying as you may want to access a single item and it wont let you. Plus these .NBU files can be large.

Thankfully some guy has created a Software that allows extracting content out of these .NBU files. This way you are able to extract contacts, old sms or in my case "notes" that I had made on my phone and couldnt pull out of my Nokia N series phone using windows exploerer. My N95 8GB phone is now free from Nokia's way!! .

the explorer for Nokia pC Suite Backup.

I was walking down the street in Madrid today when I saw this bus stop ad for Samsung Pixon 8MP camera mobile phone . My mouth kind of watered, since I have been eternally dissatisfied with the quality of the cameras that come with mobile phones.

Could this finally be the mobile phone with a proper camera on it? I guess I want more of a camera than a phone. Though judging by the tiny lens it doesn't look way promising.

My dissatisfaction with mobile phone cameras goes way back. I've tried so many models by now. The latest one since last summer is the Nokia N95 8GB . I would have thought with 5 Mega Pixels it would make me satisfied. But I'm far from satisfied.

The dissatisfaction shows up each time I go on vacation and then realize how shitty the images and videos look once I come back. Last weekend I went to Ibiza. I always go away for a weekend in February somewhere so I can get distracted and forget my -sad- life for two days. Ibiza was nice, but in winter its empty and as cold as anywhere else. It is so small !! The old town inside the fort is pleasant, but don't expect to see many churches or anything like that.

The Nokia N95 8gb takes OK - not great - pictures. It has some problem with issues of light contrast.

The real problem with N95 is it's video . The only time it can make a good video is in a fully sunshiny day. Otherwise, which is most of the time, the video appears dark . The camera has the capacity to make good videos. I know this because when I point it to the floor and then pull it back skywize, the lighting corrects itself for a few seconds. But then it goes back to almost full darkness.

This Video I took in Ibiza is an example of this darkness problem with the N95 8GB video recording. WATCH VIDEO:

I wonder if I update the Firmware it will help improve the camera recording quality.

Now here is the freaky part. The firmware that has the video quality improvements is version 3 something. This according to the change logs of the firmware that secretly appear on the internet. I dont understand why Nokia doesnt provide a page with change history. If like me your phone is branded ( example Vodafone ) then when updating using Nokia's Software Updater it will only update you to Version 2 something, because the update is not available for the particular operator. Nokia Symbian 3rd edition software is only available for non branded phones.

So what must I do to get N95 firmware V31.0.015 or above? The answer is Debranding nokia n95 8gb as explained in the forum for allaboutsymbian.com

1. Manually backup data, so when copying back there is no vodafone material or use only the Sync with outlook feature of the Nokia suite. Never use backup
2, Changed product code using NSS ( Nemesis Service Suite )to Euro-1

4, Put product code back to normal

They charge a minimum of 50 Euros for it in Spain. Two trips to the embassy were needed. 1 hour wait just to turn in the passport, then a week of waiting, then an hour wait to pickup the passport.

Well, now with the Visa at hand, my trip to India is really going to happen finally. Now I only have to begg the boss for vacation days. Ha Ha!!

The days before youTube it was quite difficult to provide video on a site. If you hosted it yourself, it would use tons of bandwidth which meant having to pay ridiculous amounts for hosting. Something that didn't make sense for those of us who don't make money off our sites.

But problem remains with being unable to stream audio. There are services out there but they are not reliable. Trashy russian or chinese startup companies that come and go like the wind.

Six months ago I used to host the audio samples of this site on a service by a company that changed business plans. So I took on the trouble of searching and finding new hosts, which ended up being These russian assholes called toolwi. Since then I've uploaded about 30 sound samples, just to find out last week, that they have too changed business plans and that all the files I had uploaded are now deleted!!!.

Please, Please adventerous, testosterone driven entrepreneurs, CHOOSE A BUSINESS PLAN AND STICK WITH IT!!!!!.

Have some mother fucking respect for us webmasters and bloggers. I have to go now and re-upload 30 files just because you guys were too horny to think thru your business plan well enough from the start.

And it's not just Russian startups. Even Google, does this cutting short their services: JUST LIKE THAT!!. They had a web page creation service two years ago. Some of use went and uploaded material there. Now two years after Google has decided to replace it for another site creation service with a different name, so all old links won't work. The funniest thing is that their new site service looks exactly the same as the deleted old one!!!! Psycho..

Synthpop favorites Moenia from Mexico are responsible for the theme song of the movie Amar a Morir to be released in March.

The italian band Subsonica will be playing in Madrid and Barcellona



I saw the poster while walking in Barcelona. Pitty the band's last album was so horrible. Also their front man has an annoying voice.

The San Francisco hi-nrg crooner from the 80's Paul Parker is working on a new album. Every week they play a demo on his site .

The italian singer Al BaGno has said that he will no longer kiss-up with his (new) wife in front of his daughter, so that she doesn't feel embarrased of him once they end up divorcing!! (Joke)

There is a new album by Nek called "Un altra direzione" ( another direction). When I saw the jacket of the album I was horrified. He appears dressed in a suit. On top of that the title of the album is "another direction". So I thought that he has jumped on the bandwagon of doing "Tin-pan Alley" big band covers. However, after hearing a bit of the album, it turns out that it is just his old sound. Actually a bit too much like his old stuff. He really needs "Un altra direzione" really soon before we get tired.

Speaking of famous italians, there is also a new 2009 album by Umberto Tozzi, but it is a disaster. It is safe to say that he has lost it completely.

The biggest star of Rock en Español which is the argentinian Gustavo Cerati is half way through the recording of his new album to be released this year. He has also worked for the second time on the next Shakira album.

There have been recent changes to the electrical bill that spaniards receive. Originally the bills were once every two months, but starting February 2009 they are billing once a month. AND they have hiked up the rates officially 15%. That's officially, but in practice it looks like the bill has doubled.

Here is my bill for just 1 month usage:

It is 78 Euros for just one month. We are talking 78Euros for one month for a tiny studio apartment for a single working person who is not home half the time!!!!! Other people with actually families have received $300 Euro charges.

My landlord first announced the amount to me over the phone. Then when she came to collect the money, she goes: "¿Se te ha pasado el disgusto?" ( i.e. Have you gotten over it?.)

This is pure suit & tie robbery . These companies executives are the highest paid, then they go asking the government for help using our tax money and the government just turns one cheek and shows them the other cheek. The spanish government are a bunch of bumholes!

Put the bill in perspective: The highest imaginable prices, for a country that has the highest unemployment rate 17% ANYWHERE in Europe. The lowest salaries ANYWHERE in the western world. The HIGHEST home prices ANYWHERE with the exception of Manhattan!!

Just ridiculous!!!!

The italian singer Mike Francis (Real name: Francesco Puccioni ) passed away January 30th, 2009. Many of us loved his music in the 80's.
