I should make a section in my site presenting companies with no proper business plan. Or laughable companies that will go under soon.

The video hosting site VIMEO is one of those companies that will not last very long.

Apart from being desperate enough, because of lack of advertising, to be pushing their users to pay for premium services, Vimeo's staff are a bunch of rude idiots with little respect for site owners that gave them a chance by using their service instead of using youTube or another more established service.

On top of that they are mormon-wannabes advertising themselves as a more family oriented( which I guess really means Republican oriented) video hosting site.

As in many of these new ventures, if you decide to use them you are taking a big risk. They are small, new and poor. This means that they have not tested their platform throughally, they might go under, fuck up or change their business plan. Messing up all the work of the webmasters that might have decided to user their services.

Here is what happened to me, and why you should STAY AWAY FROM THE ASSHOLES OF VIMEO : I had recently started using their service. The reason was that I didn't want my videos on youTube. This is because after analyzing people's behavior I realized that if you put a video on youTube people will watch it right there and they will not visit your site afterwards. And my main wish was that they watch the videos on the site. So I figured that I'll try Vimeo since nobody visits their portal anyway, so its perfect for my purposes. Only people from my site will see the videos as nobody visits Vimeo directly. Anyway, three days ago I noticed there was a problem with the videos I had uploaded. Their thumbnails had disappeared. I waited a day, because they are a new company and shit happens. But the problem remained, so then on the second day I went to their forum and there was a long list of people noting the problem and most all said the same: Why doesn't vimeo inform us when it expects the problem to be solved. Anyway three days went by and the problem remained. I went back to the forum and the developer had not even bothered to give an update on when he expects this to be solved. So I posted a message that was rather polite for the hassle they have created for me and asking them to at least update us. About an hour later they deleted my account. The reason they gave was a lie too, but its better to move on to a more reliable service now before I have too many videos with them.

Conclusion: Fuck You Vimeo you have no respect for webmasters that gave you a "chance". Every one use some other service

And the price also stretches the word ridiculous.

Obviously the crisis has not gone far enough in Spain. Once they are forced to drop their prices a further 20% then maybe they will recover their sense of modesty a little bit.

On the 30th of April 2009 there will be a mass at the cathedral in Murcia in memory for the great spanish artist Mari Trini .

It is a petty but in her own country they don't appreciate her enough. Even after the news of her death they still don't play her songs on the radio and non of her CD's re-entered the spanish top 50 CD sales chart.

Somebody -not me- on youTube created a video montage for her song Mira . Released in 1997 as part of her CD Alas de Crystal, it was never played on the radio in Spain. It is so hard to believe the amount of disrespect from Los 40 Principales and other stations in this country. They play whatever garbage by American and UK artists but won't play a masterpiece like this, just because it was performed by a non rock oriented local female artist in her 40s.

The song is overwhelming. It makes me cry. I don't know why. Maybe the chord changes, maybe the intervals between the musical notes.. Maybe because it describes a love so amazingly solid that I know will never happen to me. Mari Trini, sweetheart, if you really lived a love like the one you describe in this song, then you were one lucky woman.

I imagine that this lady at her funeral is Claudette Lanza , the love of her lifetime. She appears in the credits of many of Mari Trini's albums as the stylist for the album images. I am very angry that Mari Trini's old record company EMI - Hispavox has not reissued on CD, what music critics consider to be her best album: ¿Quien? ( Who? ): The album contains some of the most amazing songwriting ever in songs like "Le Robare" which is unavailable on CD!!!. It was briefly reissued in the 90s but is now out of print on CD.

This morning I had a Gastroscopy performed on me. This is the medical procedure by which they stick an aparatus thru your mouth, down your throwt, in order to inspect your stomach and beyond. Yes it goes beyond the stomach because there is an organ called Duodenum after the stomach that it also inspects.

I knew it was not going to be pleasant. In fact you have to sign a letter consenting to the dangers which in extreme cases can include cardiac arrest.
So I was nervous.

On the good side, and in case any one of you is thinkig about going through this, I must say it was not as painful as I thought. This is because the apparatus they stick in you is a flexible tube, so it is not a hard piece of metal. I was also worried if I would be able to breath. And it turned out that breathing was not a big problem either.

You do feel like vomiting, though nothing vomits out because you have fasted the night before.

They also offer to sedate you if you want, but they say its not necessary. I was not sedated and I'm glad I wasn't.

In my case they had to take a tissue sample for which they stuck a wire inside the tube. This was a bit nerve wrecking to watch. I wish I kept my eyes shut. In other words, it looks way worst than it feels. If you can get your brain off the idea that you have tubes and wires in you, you will be OK. Keep your eyes shut for better results. Ha! Ha Ha!!

When I left my life in California behind to come to live in Europe, I could not bring most of my belongings, because I was poor and had no help and the cost of shipping overseas was beyond my budget. Among the belongings was my collection of VHS tapes that had a heavy weight. Many were very special to me including really rare eye-RAN-iaan rangarang and concert videos and also very dear to me clips from MTV Latino from the early 90s. In order to save as many as possible, while still in California, I rushed to FRY's electronics and bought a video capture card by some garbage CRAP Taiwanies company called AverMedia. This was in autum 2003. I curse that day!!! I should have known not to buy Chinese or Taiwani's products.

So, in the few days I had left in California before my flight to Europe, I rushed to transfer as many precious videos to digital format.You know, a VCD does not occupy as much as a VHS and definitly does not weigh as much. Among the digitalized items em were rare concert videos by Mahasty , Haydeh , etc..

Recently I was trying to view the clips and realized that Windows Media Player wouldn't play it giving me codec error.

The codec used by AverMedia for the AverTV USB product prior to 2005 was a video codec called WJPG ... yes with a fucking W in front!! The W standing for another garbage Taiwanies company called Winbond .

Looking on the net I couldn't find the codec. They do list it but the links all lead to Aver's site.

At first their tech support didn't even know what WJPG was, then finally the very unhelpfull Product Manager at AVerMedia Information USA office, tells me:

Due to interlecutual property We dont offer a stand alone version of our Codec. Our codec is intergrated into our appliction and there is no way that we can provide you a source code, standalone, etc.

Oh really ?? . Then when you sell your shitty devices and cards you should put a big note on your boxes saying that you use a crap codec that no one else uses and that the CODEC will not be supported after two years. Somebody needs to report these assholes to the FDIC.

Anyway, with their tech suppost being of no help, I realized that one of my old laptops would play the videos fine therefore had the codec.

So I figured out what the .dll was for the WJPG codec. The only thing left was how to install the .dll in my newer laptops that run XP - SP2.

Here are the instructions on how to install a single codec using its .dll file on Windows XP :

First

First you must copy the .dll or .ax file in C:\WINDOWS\System32

Second

you must go to the registry Start > Run > type: REGEDIT

Then go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

Note that it says Windows NT even though my system or yours might be XP - SP2. So yes, its Windows NT even for Windows XP.

Create an alphanumeric entry called: VIDC.WJPG or VICD. and the four digits of the codec you want to install.

Double click on it and enter for the value the name of the .dll, in my case: wb9967.dll

Third

Also in registry go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\MediaResources\icm

There create a key (directory) called VICD.WJPG or VICD."the FourCC code of the codec you want to install"

Then once it has been created inside the directory create an alphanumeric value and call it Driver. Give it the value of the .dll or .ax file of the codec, in my case: wb9967.dll

Another alphanumeric key to create is Description with value Winbond JPEG[WJPG]

using programs like Avic AVI FourCC Changer v1.00 - www.inmatrix.com
you can see the FourCC of the video file and see exactly how the name of the codec appears in the file. I've noticed for example that if it appears as wjpg it might not work but if you change it to WJPG then it works.

So much sad news coming from the world of songwriting. Just few days ago I wrote about another songwriter passing away. Today I was shocked to read that Mari Trini has died at the not so old age of 61.
She is one of the greatest songwriters Spain has had. This in Spain's male dominated market of the late 60's and 70's where the only other female singer songwriter was Maria Ostiz. Before her, women in music in Spain were good looking vocalist entertainers that did not have much creative value of their own. She recorded two records in France in the 60s initially. Mari Trini's 1970 LP "Amores" can be considered both in significance and sales as the spanish equivalent of Carole King's "Tapestry" LP. I really admired Mari Trini's songwriting. Many of them were social conscious songs luxuriously arranged by Spain's super star arranger of italian origin Rafael Trabucchelli . Her best songs were never singles. She had hits up until 1986, the last one being "Quien Me Venderá?" (Who will sell me?), in which, she describes todays lenders and bankers as white colar thieves. Her last Lp with Hispavox was in 1987 and was a bit of a dissapointment and after that a certain radio station (los 40) stopped playing her. But she kept releasing. She had a really good album / CD in 1991 called Espejismos . Highly recommended particularly the song "la Verdad" .

It is unclear around what date, but she had suffered from cancer and because of that she underwent kidney transfer and after that she felt very weak.

In 2001 she had a really cute double album with El Trio Los Panchos were the great songs of both hers and the mexican trio were performed in the Panchos Bolero style. It was a hit in Spain and latinamerica.

Apparently Mari Trini was a lesbian pretty much married to a woman called claudette though she kept that aspect very quiet and in interviews they ask her about men and she played along with those questions. This according to another spanish star called Massiel that spoke about it after her death.

Legendary eye-ran!-ian songwriter Parviz Maghsadi پرویز مقصدی passed away March or April 2009 in the U.S.

He was the first modern pop music songwriter in that country, breaking into the market around 1964. Many of the biggest names in eye-ranian music owe the start of their career to him: Aref, Gougoush, Dariush .... This is because over there the songwriter was also the producer of the project, often paying with his own pocket the expenses of the release and distribution of the record.

In the video that accompanies this article, I play some of the music he wrote on my record player. Included in those that I play is his most famous composition and probably the most famous eyeranian pop song: Gol va Goldoon (Flower and Flowerpot) released in 1969 or 1970 featuring -later to become famous - Armik on guitar (the neuvo flamenco star).

Parviz Maghsadi was born in Leningrad and I think his mother was Russian. He was incredibly famous upto 1973. His melodies were well rounded western pop melodies with only a touch of p-ersian music in them. In 1973 he dissapeared. In part, he could not fit well as the P-ersian pop songs in the 70's were starting to change, becoming lyric-centric, where the songwriting focused around a complex set of lyrics. In eyeRan they call them Saalaari writing. This allowed for complex lyrics that could encapsulate the complex social situation of the country. In this context, Maghsadi's melody-centered songwriting had no place. He needed the lyricist to adapt to his melodies instead. He returned to work around 1975, but his new songs did not catch on and non of the newer songs became hits and he was considered demodé and a "has been" compared to newer names like Zoland, Shmaizadeh or Cheshmazar.

Once installed in San Diego California, U.S after 1979 he never worked in music again. He was also definitly a bit wierd. The reports suggest he died in extreme poverty in Denver. I even read an article saying he was playing the guitar on the street. It is unfortunate. The real responsibles of this attrocity are the ayatollahs in eyeRan that have messed up the lifes of so many people forcing them to end up all over the world. Secondly, the lack of a public health system for unemployed in the U.S is litteraly a crime, so is the lack of social services. I know cuz I was denied them both even though for 10 years Uncle Sam pinched $500 out of my pay check each month. Then when you fall out of work and request some of your contributions back, they say you dont qualify or they are out of funding or some other lie.

Back to Maghsadi it is extra sad because I know that if he had registered his songs in the U.S. and hired a song Publisher, such as Warner Chappel / April Music or other roialty collectors under ASCAP / BMI he would have collected easily $4000 dollars from each Googoosh concert. In big public performances and concerts in the western world the promoter must pay the publisher of these songs a royalty if the song is performed. This has nothing to do with record companies, these are publisher of the song, not the recording. My guess is that Maghsadi never looked into this, and into the fact that he should have registered and given to a U.S or western publisher the right to administer his songs.
