Por motivos personales y porque estuve en Tenerife el fin de semana, no he podido actualizar la pagina. He vuelto con un dolor de cabeza increible porque conducir en Tenerife supone muchas curvas y giros constantes debido a la naturaleza del sitio. Y luego esta la altura que en algunos sitios alcanza los 2000 metros.

Aqui estaba yo con el volcan Teide de fondo muy por encima de las nubes.

Mi estado de confusion continua y por eso quiero compartir con todos los que viven en España el siguiente video. Digo los que viven en España porque los demas no creo que entiendan la gracia que nos hace el siguiente video de un concurso televisivo en Panama . The Quality of journalism in Spain is rather low if compared with that of journalism in the United States. For example, recently Spain's printed media published front page articles announcing with maximum flair and excitement that Spain's banks have entered the Real Estate Market offering apartments with major discounts.

I would think a journalist before writing such garbage, should go and check if what the banks claim is actually happening! But since they didn't bother to check, I did it myself.

What I found out was that these Banks overly exaggerate their claims and there is very little truth to their claims.

In any case, even if there are discounts, they are on housing that is at a price range that is out of the reach of the typical Spaniard. So they are not solving anyones problems by giving a 30% discount on a property priced at 290,000 Euros. Even if that brings the price down a bit, it's price is still forbidding for single Spaniards.

Here is a very simple example for a single person in Madrid with a typical salary. Usually such a person can only afford a home of up to a price of 130000 Euros in order to keep monthly mortgage payments under 1/3 rd of their salary.

So I went to the Web page of Altamira Santander Real Estate which offers the supposed special offer apartments sold by Spain's main bank BCHS.

I did a Search for Madrid for an apartment with a maximum price of 130,000 Euros. The result came back as a big fat ZERO . I increased my amount to 160,000 Euros for Madrid and the result still came back as ZERO APARTMENTS in that range.

The same was true of the Real Estate company ANIDA that sells housing belonging to the bank BBVA

The only bank offering something remotely reasonable, though not quite, was Caixa Catalunya through their Real Estate portal PROCAM. But even if their prices are a bit more reasonable then there is the problem that they are just banks and not very strong at selling property. So hardly any of the listings has photographs or proper description. Forget a Video Tour. Obviously someone who works is not going to have time to go look at apartments without seeing a single photograph before hand.

Amazing how well the Eurovision contest has worked out this year.


I like to watch it because as opposed to the regular US/UK based music industry, Eurovision is at least a bit more democtratic and you get to realize other parts of Europe also exist.

Anyway, I don't even have a TV but the video stream from the official eurovision site worked perfectly.

I was watching and the main theme I was perceiving was that many countries had simply sent the sexiest girl they could find and that the songwriting was the part they dedicated the least interest in. These girls including the one from Spain and Turkey are little less than prostitures. If the songs were acceptable, I wouldn't say that, but if you are going to sing childish nursery rhymes half naked, then you are a prostitute!! The Spanish girl ended with hardly any votes. Pitty for her because actually she had a good album not so long ago in Spain. I don't understand how they sent her with such a horribly childish song!! It's like the song was the last thing they thought of!

Then suddenly comes the entry from NORWAY. I know zilch about Norway, don't know the singer, he is not cute to me. Even the polka rythm is not for me either. But holly cow!!! That chorus is a MONSTER!!. Hats off!! The song was absolutely brillant.

Before the voting started, while I had to watch the spaniard prostitute giving a sad spectacle to the stupedest song ever, I thought to myself: The Norwegian song was the best. I wonder if voting will be political, regional, patriotic or marketing influenced? . Could it be possible that the best song could win...?

Well... Eurovision magic happened: A real song won!! .

The Norwegians were double the points ahead right from the start. Not only did the song win, but it won by the biggest margin ever.

Bravo to the voters for voting for a real song!!

Norway won ! Alexander Rybak "Fairytale".

 

The show was great too, particularly when a japanese austonaut Koichi Wakata announced the start of the vote countdown from Space !!! There was also an amazing sky water show with Cirque de Soleil. Deutschland's votes were announced by Thomas Anders , one of the most beautiful voices ever.

May 12th 2009 was the debate of the state of the nation in Spain.

At this point everyone knows exactly in what state the nation is: total dispare!!! with 4 million unemployed, twice the unemployment rate of any industrial nation, a ridiculous housing market with prices no one can afford, etc.. . This is the real snapshot of Spain.

During the debate ZP as he is called over here, announced his measures to pull Spain out of the crisis.

I read, and RE-READ the main measure several times to total and absolute disbelief.

The main measure is designed to encourage people to buy homes.

YOu tell me: What would encourage you to buy a home? .

Here I am, having worked since my sophomore year in college and now I am approaching midlife and I still don't own a home. What would encourage me to buy a home is having money in my pocket. A nice measure, would be if they reduced the 7% tax one has to pay for buying a home. Another nice measure would be if I could finance more than 95% of the price of the property, like one can do in most places around the world. Currently banks in Spain only finance 80%. Maybe the governement could patch the difference somehow!! Another measure would be if the government would sell homes at prices people could actually afford. Funnily the homes the government sponsors, called VPO, are MORE EXPENSIVE than those being sold in the open market, when in any other country, governement sponsored homes are usually 30 to 40% cheaper than open market properties. Another measure they could have done is to match first time home owners first year mortgage amounts or spare them from all income tax the first year.

But NOooooooo!!. Absolutely nothing like that. Zapatero's measure consists of the following: Instead of helping people to buy a home, he is going to further punish those who can buy a home. And he calls that a stimulus!!!!!!!!%%$$$$@@@

I am baffled!!! Did ZP go to college?? Does he know basic algebra??

Here's the measure. Currently there is a small amount which comes to about a maximum of just 1000Euros that we can deduct from our taxes for paying a mortgage on our main home. Well, get this, the guys DUMB idea is to PUNISH anyone buying a home after 2010 by excluding them from this benefit.

Ha ha !! So he thinks he can encourage the economy by CUTTING benefits !!!

And get this: Only those earning less than 17000 Euros a year will still be able to diduct that misserable amount from their taxes for paying a mortgage.

What kind of world does Zapatero live in ??!! NO ONE earning 17000 Euros a year in Spain in a major city can own a home unless they buy it with their spouse or couple !!!!!!!

Why does he have to think always as couples ?? Call me a hippy, but FUCK couples !!!! Viva trios, quatuors et l'amour libre!!!

Apart from the fact that the poor person earning 17000 is not being encouraged in anyway. He is just not being screwed as much as the guy earning 19000 who still cant buy a 200,000 Euro apartment, which is the typical price in Madrid and Barcelona. Now the guy earning 19000 Eruos a year, if he wishes to buy an apartment, realizes that it is going to cost him about $1000 more after 2010 !!!!

Is this encouragement? Off course NOT !!! Somebody get a chair and smack it on Zapatero's big DUMB HEAD !!!

I've already lost many of the concert ticket stubs of shows I've been to in the past. Like the one for Midnight Oil in San Francisco, the first Googoosh concert I went to which was the one in Oakland, which was her first in the US. I've also lost tickts stubs of concerts by El Ultimo de la Fila, mexican band Maldita Vecindad, etc. In the U.S. unfortunatelly when you buy a concert ticket they just give you this boring tiny ticket which has no photo or anything interesting, so I might have just threw them away.

Spain is a country that these days is best known for having the highest unemployment rate anywhere in the western hemisphere. A whopping 18%. And thats just the official figure. It is also a country known for its stock of ridiculously expensive empty homes that nobody can afford to buy. ... etc ,... etc..

But back when I was a child, Spain was immediately associated with images of gipsy dressed flamenco dolls a la Lucero Tena and the black bull logo of Osborne Brandy. But most of all there was a brand and a logo that would transport my imagination to Spain immediatelly: B E L T E R . The brand for the Barcelona based record company Discos BELTER .

Somewhere, left behind in a drawer in a house I lived where these old 1960s records with the BELTER logo on them. The jackts were thick shiney and stocky. The pictures a bit embarrasing. The music, was not really my cup of tea. But it was all so uniquely SPAIN.

Belter was the record company responsible for popularizing uniquely spanish flamenco and rumba artists at a very early stage in the 1950s. And therefore helping Spain's music keep a personality of it's own. Until going bankrupt in 1983, they supported what was truely pure "Spain" with their musical releases. All those super fun summer beach records by Rumba Tres were released by Belter, etc..

I had thought that by BELTER being such an important part of music history in Spain, that there would be tons of websites with lots of good and precise information and discography for Discos Belter. Tribute sites, etc.

So I took an enormous dissapointed when after searching a bit all that I could find on discos Belter was a not so elaborate Wikepedia entry in Spanish.

Bellow, is one of my favorite records by BELTER. It is from 1972 sung by: La Terremoto Dolores Vargas. She is the one that had the big hit Achili Pum . The bellow single has on one side El Toro (The bull) b/w El Desgrasiao (The unfortunate). The songs are written by someone called: J. E. Mochi. The lyrics are really interesting BTW.
