Jimi Jamison (Survivor) en Madrid + July street concerts in Madrid: Paola e Chiara + Olga Tañon
Jimi Jamison is one of the most famous rock vocalists ever. Straight forward rock is not my style, but even so, Jimi's voice is so beautiful that I have been following his career, record by record since I was a little kid. He was the vocalist of Vital Signs by Survivor, one of the best rock albums of the 80's. He will be performing in Madrid 29 of November 2009.
I use the site NVIVO to track concerts occasionally.
By the way, Jimi Jamison is an active recording artist even today. He just released a new album called Crossroads Moment which I hope to grab before he plays the live show.
But now onto a list of shows many of them for free that happen in the streets of central Madrid in July
Gloria Trevi : 4 July Saturday 11pm Plaza Chueca. She is an amazing artists. I discovered her when I lived in the U.S. Her 80s hit Doctor Psychiatra is in Dario's selection of the 600 best songs ever. Also her comeback hit after her personal problems En medio de la tempestad is another of my favorites.
Paola e Chiara: 4 July Saturday 10:30pm Calle Pelayo. Attention hetero men, don't miss these beautiful italian disco ladies !!
Olga Tañon : 4 July Saturday 11pm also Calle Pelayo. This is an amazing woman . A MEEEEGAAAA superstar from Puerto Rico which I cannot recommend enough. Her 90s hit Presencie Tu Amor is in Dario's selection of the 600 best songs ever.
Barb@zul: 4 July Saturday 11:30 PM calle pelayo. Synthpop band. Most of their songs are a bit weak, but their vocalist has a very beautiful voice and they have one really great song called Aun Me Puedes Tu
Luis Miguelez : 5 July Sunday - Calle Libertad. Luis Miguelez is the author of many amazing movida madrileña hits including "Tu vas a Ser Mi Hombre" which is in Dario's selection of the 600 best songs ever.
Pastora: July 4 saturday 11:00 - Plaza del Rey. I guess I wont see these guys since I'll be bussy with Gloria Trevi and Olga Taños. Why are all these great artists playing at the very same hour?? They could have distributed them better.
Yerushalayim shel zahav LIVE from my apartment by JOSEPH !!!
This month of July 2009 I have a listing on eBay for a jewish song performed in a persian 45rpm by Aref. I know that the song was a hebrew song originally but didn't know what the name of the hebrew song was. The persian lyrics Koochooloo was a completely new lyrics and has nothing to do with the lyrics of the original song and as it happened in persian industry the songwriting credit simply read: Hebrew song .
Thankfully I met another fellow expat american in Madrid like me called Joseph who knew the song title and played it live for me on violin. The song was a hit in Israel in 1967 and is called Yerushalayim shel zahav or Jerusalem the Golden. Apparently it was made famous by a singer called Chava Alberstein.
Came back from a quick trip of Edinburgh ( Scotland ) & Berlin.
Edinburgh was way nicer than the articles and the photos on the web had suggested.
The castle is actually not that interesting and the 13 pounds !!! one has to pay to get in is definitly NOT worth it.
But the city has no annyoing tall buildings or skyrisers and there are tons of historical buildings made of stone. They don't appear in tourist guides because they are not churches or cathedrals, but they make for a beautiful view and a great trip to the past. Many of the roads are made of old stone.
Definitly theyve done great planning for this city as you can see beautiful green hills surrounding the city, just like it should be without annoying new buildings.
The only annoying things: They are building a TRAM .. so 18th Century!! Then there is a very annyoing cold wind all the time hitting one's face! And finally but not least, as this sign says at the University dorm were I slept: NO BALL GAMES allowed .. Ha Ha ha...
Then it was onto BERLIN . I was not sure if I would want to visit this town, because according to the pictures I had seen all historical stuff had been bombed. But people insisted that it is interesting. I was also curious to see what sort of place it is for living, since I had read about their cheap rents and affordable apartments.
The town is really spread out and it takes a very long time to go anywhere. Walking around is tyering and not an option. Looks like some U.S town, say for example, Washington DC. Doesn't look European. Very few monuments or churches worth seeing.
I had heard there were cute little neighbourhoods, but I didnt see any. I was dissapointed in not seeing any neighbourhoods with "hand craft" "mom and pop" stores lined up along the streets as it had been suggested to me.
Also there was not as much "Ball Games" as they try to suggest. Of all the people I had contacted with, the only one I actually met turned out to be an american .!!
The Berlin guys appeared really frosty compared to people I had met in Munich. In one of the places in Berlin they pointed at my shoes and did not let me in!!!
And the weather as you imagine was coooooold. I had to wear all the tshirts I had taken for the trip one on top of the other to not freeze.
On the good side, these germans always invent some festival or another as an excuse for good food. Cheap easy and on the street. I ate so much...
The site will have limited and irregular updates for these next weeks. This is because of personal hard times I'm going through. Office work. A trip to Edinburgh and Berlin. And some time needed to change some technical, design and layout issues related to the site.
So do check back because I will get back to having regular posts.

I have received over the years emails from non i-ranian music lovers and collectors in western countries asking me to provide them a list of persian funky music from the 70s.
When we say the word funk, please do not expect to hear James Brown translated to Farsi. Scrap out any images of Gap Band, Brass Constructon or the Fatback band.
I guess what these collectors reffer to is the cross of p*ersian 70's pop with splashes of elements of funk.
Funk based music did not do too well in iraanian music because it didn't fit well with the complex lyrics that artists wanted in their songs. Also it didnt mix well with melancholy wich is typically an important ingredient in persian culture.
Still we can dig and find persian music that had funky elements from the 70's. Here's a list of some of the funkier 4x4 ones:
- Leila Forouhar- "Shamim" (the original 70s version) ( Sample )

Summary: Plus a picture disc by LIME - synthpop - in action
Recently I sold an LP record on eBay to someone in the U.S.
From having looked at similar sales on eBay it appeared that the average shipping price for an LP ( 12") would be around $10. So that's the amount I asked for.
Then I took the package to Spain's postal service Correos for shipping. I was told the postage would be 17 Euros !!!! That is 24 dollars !!
Needless to say, I lost money on the eBay Sale.
This is another example on how everything in Spain is out of proportion more expensive than everywhere else while peoples incomes are still embarrasingly low.
As a proof that postal charges are not that high elsewhere in the world, last week I received an LP just like the one I shipped, from France containing a picture disc LP from LIME
Look closely and you will see that the La Poste France stamp shows 4 Euros. Compare that with the robbery of 17 Euros performed on me by Spain's post office!!!.
Maybe the European Parlament could be useful in dissallowing the Spanish government to allow a public entity charge out of proportion fees. Otherwise we don't need European parliaments for anything.
In the video bellow you can watch the 12" picture disc LP that I bought in action on my turntable. It is by Canadian synthpop duo LIME and its the picture disc version of their LIME 3 or LIME III Lp from 1983.
Even though it has not been updated since 5 years ago, I remind you that I have a website at the following link dedicated to LIME LE PAGE Canadian synthpop duo

The search box Does NOT WORK properly . It may or may not give the correct results. In many cases it ignores many existing pages and entries.
The best way to find the content you are searching for is to BROWSE using the two set of topic menus that appear on the right hand column of this website. There are two menus , the first one is for general topics, such as Spain Charts, stories of my travels, .... . The second menu, further down is for i--ranian 70s music.
Do NOT browse using the tags you see under each individual post. Some of the tags or labels under individual posts are placed only for technical reasons as a requirement from some news sites that automatically index my site. Instead, to find content on my site, browse the menus on the right-hand column.
Additionally the only fully updated menus are the ones on the very first page of the site. That is, the entry page to the site.
So before browsing the menus, locate yourself at exactly the following address:
http://updatesdario.blogspot.com
The menu on any OTHER page or subpage of the site or related sites can potentially be out of date.
The different pages and files of this site are hosted on three different domains:
www.dariointernet.com
www.irannostalgia.com
updatesdario.blogspot.com
There is no relation between the topic and the domain in which they are hosted.
If you must search, the best results are obtained by going to Google and typing the following command:
+(site:www.dariointernet.com OR site:www.irannostalgia.com OR site:updatesdario.blogspot.com) +"string you are searching for"
Or you can search each of the 3 domains separately:
+site:www.dariointernet.com +"string being searched"
Repeat this for the other two domains:
