The Polski Experience

I finally visited Poland. Very quick weekend trip. It wasn't that easy to get there because even though there are some low cost airlines flying there from Spain, they usually fly during week-days only. So I couldn't use them on the weekend. So eventually I had to go via Bergamo and on the way back via London, with the anoying detail of having to pass airport security 4 times!!!

I think Polish people are very goodlooking, so I had to go checkout where they come from!! They are friendlier than, lets say, Spaniards and less snobby than the Berliners, but expect some language barrier. They are likely to speak Deutsche, but no English. I visited Krakow ( Crack - Hoe !! ) and then a long train ride to Poznan .

Surprisingly I liked Poznan much better than cracow.

Poland is not expensive. Even compared to other ex-eastern countries like Hungary. But the fact that they have their own money makes you loose money at the end. For example, I just noticed after coming back that I still had a Slutty bill (or whatever their currency is called) in my bag which I forgot to convert back to Euros.

Las Grecas en Turco ( in Turkish ) !!!! 1975

 

One of Spain's biggest success stories in modern music was the female duo Las Grecas about which I had written previously here.

Their first two LP's from 1974 & 1975 produced by Jose luis de Carlos had heavy metal, psychedlic guitars and drums clashing with the wild voice of Edelina Muñoz Barrull (Tina ) (RIP).

I was happily shocked to discover a really amazing vinyl 45rpm ( 45 devir) by a female Turkish artist called Perihan doing a very nice cover version of a Las Grecas song.

The original of the song is Negros son tus ojos writer being Muñoz from Las Grecas 1975 second album called Mucho Mas .

The title of the turkish version is Nerden Nereye.

The album also includes a song by El Luis which later would become famous for his song Yo te lo digo cantando . I wish I had his three LP's because judging by the few samples I've heard they were rockin'

The other side of the turkish record Nova Plak 1002 is a Bachelet cover version.

The career of Las Grecas ended in 1978, with the illness of one of the two girls. Unfortunatelly two completely unrelated girls that have no idea what the essense of Las Grecas was, are going around using the name with absolutely horrendous cheap badly made electronic music background. Please don't confuse such material with the real 70's group.
