Two day impression of Marrakesh

I'm typing this using the free WIFI at the backpackers hostal I'm staying. It's amazing how well WIFI works each time I've visited Marocco. It also worked well when I visited Rabat last christmas. I've also been to Fez .

I came here hoping to get some sun, but it has been raining. It is a bit warmer than Madrid. Apparently for Christmas children are given percussion instruments and they play them during this period. So some kid neighbour of the Riad (hostal) has been giving me a major headache. You also meet fellow travellers, and so I bumped into a lady who has been bringing me up to date with the high tech industry in the Bay Area where she works.

I preferred Rabat to Marrakesh, but it might be more enjoyable than Fez. However, don't expect that much out of it. Two full days is sufficient to see it all. It has about 6 or 7 palaces to see. You need to get inside them to see anything. On the good side the entrance fee is a low price of One Dollar. The palaces namely have nice patios and woodwork. Medersa Ben Youssef and Palais De La Bahia were the best.

There is a problem with getting around in Marrakesh as well, because these people down here don't seam to know how to draw maps. They are all wrong. Nothing matches what you see in the map!!

Then there is food. That was good too. I eat a lot and really well and this time I didn't get sick because I avoided any sort of meat.

60's Beat Black is Black cover in HINDI & as a backing track for El Luis (Flamenco)




The 60's hit song "Black is Black" had a notorious rhythm track that everybody can immediately recognize. In this post I present two recordings you may not know that are based on Black is Black.

First comes 70's flamenco star El Luis , a very interesting artist born in Galicia Spain, that however grew up in Argentina and finally started his career in Spain. His recording "yo te lo digo cantando" is one of my favorites. However, here we are to talk about another of his hits called Beibe, no huyas mas ( Baby, don't escape anymore). It takes the rhythm track of black is black and delivers on top of it a raw and tough flamenco vocal performance with new melody and lyrics. The recording is from 1977.

Next is a Hindi Bollywood cover version of Black is Black that appears in an indian movie from 1970. The vocals are perfomed by India's most famous female singer Asha Bhosle. More a novelty than anything. Listen:

All this said I wanted to mention that Dario's Mike Kennedy Site was the very first site to trace the discography of this German - Spanish Singer and his old band Los Bravos . The site started in the year 2001. Anyway due to the closing of a computer server, I've moved that old site to a new location. I never thought I'd write about a guy with a turbant on my site, but any site that has i--ranian viewership outside the borders needs to reflect this news. Even though Montazeri can be considered a criminal for helping Khomeini get into power, he was gentleman enough to protest Khomeini's mass murder orders of summer 1988 - The i--ranian Holocaust-. This and other protests defending human rights caused him a confrontation with the corrupt regime who removed him from being the next country leader and eventually placed him into house arrest. For almost two decades he had been screwing the ayatollahs the best way he could, and I thank him for that.

Five months ago I had a Stye (in spanish they call them Chalazion or Orzuelo) in one of my eyelids. For five months I went from one inept doctor to another telling me to apply useless lotions for a month each making the problem worse. One of these doctors even suggested a semi Voodoo solution that made the thing get infected. So eventually one day it looked so bad I had to go to Spains truely fantastic health emergency service, where they told me when the bump gets that big, there is no point putting lotions, you have to get it operated. But then when I went to make an appointment I was given a date two months from now !!

So I decided to go thru Private Insurance provided by my employer.

For the operation I went to a wonderful private clinic which I'll write about later. Their billing department called my insurance to find out that they will not pay for anesthesia. I thought to myself, oh this is probably some silly operation where they simply pinch the bump and I probably wont need anesthesia anyway.

Thank goodness I was willing to pay the 80Euros of the Aneshesia out of my pocket because the operation required two stiches in my eyelid . I was joking with the people at the clinic about this. How on earth does the Health Insurance assume that someone can get two stiches in the eyelid without anesthesia??. Yes, so finally I did do it WITH anesthesia and gladly paid the 80Euro out of my pocket.

The nice clinic which I recommend for anything related to eye surgery in Madrid is Realvisión

The Real Vision clinic really know their stuff and they work fast. While all other doctors had waisted my time with useless lotions and creams that made the problem worst, in Real Vision, they knew right away that it had to be taken out via surgery. I went there actually because I had been their once before when I had doubts about a second corrective lasik operation on my left eye which some inept other clinic had screwed up on!!!. Anyway, regarding the lasik second operation advice I had gone from one doctor to another for advice and non of them could explain the criteria to me. I should know by my profesion how PHD's do not translate into presentation or communication skills!!. But finally I got to Real vision and their expert explained the criteria for reoperation with a very clear easy analogy. So anyway, I totally recomment Real Vision (or is it RealVision ?)

Se ha editado libro bastante ancho que enlista los lugares del mundo que son patrimonio de la humandiad segun UNESCO. El libro lo venden en tiendas vips por menos de 20 Euros y esta muy bien ya que es un libro bastante visual. Cada entrada, o lugar del mundo, viene con una foto grande a todo color.

El libro se llama El Patrimonio de La Humanidad y se subtitula Descripciones y mapas de localización de los 878 sitios patrimonio de la umanidad de la UNESCO . Lo edita Ediciones UNESCO via una editorial que se llama BLUME . Tiene 832 paginas. !! UNESCO por supuesto es Organizacion de las Naciones Unidas Para la Educacion, la Ciencia y la Cultura. Aqui os pongo 3 fotos de mi barrajando el interior del libro.
