Another 2 or 3 hours were spent today in order to achieve only 3 seconds of musical arrangements.

This time it was because a "Strings" patch - sound font - gave me a nasty surprise. I loaded it into Pro Tools and started playing what would be the string arrangement that introduces the chorus. Anyway, I know the chords of the song and have them written down. I was sure that the final chord before the chorus was a "G" major. But after loading the "String Patch", I would click the "G" key on the keyboard, but it would not match the rest of the recorded music. I told myself, maybe I wrote the chords down wrong or something!! But after some tests it became clear that the patch was not right. Then I thought maybe I had unexpectedly pressed some button that lifts the sound by 1 note or changes the pitch by one note... But even after resetting the patch was still playing an A note instead of a G. !!! Bizzare. The rest of the patches were OK. Couldn't figure out why. But at least I figured out what was going on.

So that was another day in the recording of آتیش بزنش (Bailatela) - romanization: Atish Bezanesh - , to be ready in November 2010.

Today it took me 2 hours to create a small guitar/keyboard arrangement that only lasts 3 seconds. However, it sounds super cool.

It is part of my work on my first Farsi song and recording called آتیش بزنش (Bailatela) - romanization: Atish Bezanesh - .

When originally I made my planning, I had optimistically thought that the keyboard arrangements would take me only a week, part-time, to write and record.

However, now it is clear that this takes way longer. I was so naive to think that I would just switch the keyboard and start playing. I forgot that one has to select sounds carefully and then even modify these sounds to make them appropriate for the recording.

Talking about synth sounds, while searching for sounds I stumbled upon the Nice Saw Lead sound which is sort of like the moog sound. I used it for the entire bridge section of the song!!!!!. Hearing that sound brought me back so many memories. See, ever since broadband brought music to the internet, I stopped listening to anglo saxon music. So imagine the amount of years since I heard this synth sound I associate with brit funk bands I used to like when I was a kid like Shakatak, Level 42 or Paul Hardcastle. But this synth sound mainly reminded me of one of my musical heroes: James Tip Wirrick . I remember he used this sound in Sylvester's classic All I Need LP. One of my favorite recordings of all time.

So here I am getting transported to 1982 thanks to a sound font !!!! !!!!!

My song and recording Atish Bezanesh will be delayed because the production is taking longer than originally thought. On the good side, this is because it is starting to sound amazing . I'll take the extra time and steps needed to make it perfect. I'm thinking about outsourcing to an established producer work on the 4 vocal tracks of the recording. Experienced producers pass vocals through different types of vocoder and filters and do penning on the tracks. They also do fades and echoes on the vocals and leveling. I have no idea of any of these processes and it would take me months to learn them. So maybe I'll outsource all that and also the mixing which is complicated with so many tracks. I've already found someone that does mastering via the internet. You send him your material and pay him and he masters your track in the US and sends it back. He has before and after mastering samples on his site!!!

So here I'm going to brainstorm a quick new schedule for the release of Atish Bezanesh:


- Writing Keyboard lines for chorus ( Aug 29).

- Stylizing the intro of the song (Aug 30)

- Replacing sound font of some of the existing keyboard lines. Writing mini passage before guitar solo (Aug 31)

- Vocal tracks reassessment and cutting . Re-record vocals on chorus(Sept 7)

- Vocals issues (sept 10)

- Attempt at consolidating track (Sept 13)

- Looping (Sept 15)

- Rough Mix the recording. September 17

- Possible outsource of Vocal tracks and mixing (Week of September 20)

- Research for video shoot (Week of September 27)

- video recording week of October 4

- video editing week of October 11

- video / audio distribution and promotion research. week of October 18

- library of congress. Graphics Work. week of October 25


- Distribution. Week of November 1, 2010

The Puglia Experience : South Italy

I finally was able to visit Puglia Italy, though it all started very badly when my backpack containing absolutely everything was stolen in Madrid's Barajas airport, the day I was going to leave for Puglia.

Passport, Id's, credit cards, netbook, keys, camera, wallet, cash... everything was stolen. The police were of no use and wasted precious time taking a written report. Someone saw a guy in his 40's with beard and black shirt take my backpack, but he did it very slowly so the guy that saw it thought he might be a family member or something and didn't say anything. Then the police had his picture and said he was a regular and does it everyday. They take him to court and the judge releases him the next day because there was no bodily harm.

Everyone: Please put a password on your laptop and portable divice RIGHT NOW!!!!!!

Now on to Puglia. It is like the Italian equivalent to Andalucia in Spain.

Above: : The city of Matera famous for its Sassi or Sasi Caves. Puglia is like the equivalent of Andalucia in Spain. Or so the italians say. When you try to book a hotel via internet they want to charge a heavy price ... but there are Bread and Breakfast run by older ladies that are not on the internet and are cheaper like one on San Rocco street right in the middle of the Sasso Barisano. The hotel owner is Teresa and her number 0835 33 6484 . Tell her Dario di Spagna sent you. Have google translate at hand when calling.

Above: This picture is in Lecce Italy in Puglia. Here I had a problem with the Bread and Breakfast I had reserved. The guy had rented out my room to someone else because of a confusing SMS I sent when I got robbed. So far I totally understand. But dispite now having someone for the room the guy wanted to call the reservation agency so they would charge my card as no show anyway!!!! Lecce was very nice though very very busy with toursits.

Above: Alberobello. While I was there, they were filming a Bollywood Indian movie called Due Pitibi or Dui Pitibi meaning Two Worlds ...

Above: Above is Alberobello or Alberobelo or Arbelobello or Arbgelobelo home of the Trulli . Very intersting and nice. The only thing is that there are not many busses or trains out of town. I almost lost my train because the station man told me the train would be in ritardo but actually the train came on time.

Above: Above is Bari which is a bit of a mess and looks a bit poor. It is OK place but a bit dangerous. They shot dead a store owner right in front of my hotel as I was checking in. Lots of people sleeping in parks from Germany to Bangladesh to Georgia. Also people that seam to have come with boats. But the most dangerous of all are the hotel owners. The guy charges me 60 Euros which is more than I would pay in Stockholm, then he says: No colazzione / No breakfast on top of that!!!

Recorded Vocals in a Studio for my first Farsi song ATISH BEZANESH

Update number 4 on the progress of Atish Bezanesh (Bailatela)- Beginning of August 2010

I am working slowly but surely on my first Farsi recording and release called آتیش بزنش (Bailatela). I just returned from a studio where I recorded the vocals. The vocals had to be recorded in a proper studio because only they have those high-end phantom microphones you see in the picture below. The picture was taken during the recording session.

It was too warm in there. The engineer Mike, however was very nice. I got lucky.
