Lucybell in Madrid Spain España photo and video Worlds best power pop band

Image
Lucybell in Madrid Spain España photo and video Worlds best power pop band I just got back from seeing Lucybell , probably the worlds best power rock band. It was funny to see their larger than life power drummer smacking the drums on a shaky 3 square meter stage. Amazing. It is amazing how just three musicians can sound so complete. Claudio Valenzuela has a great ability to change vocal ranges quickly while drummer Cote Foncea is simply a non stop animal on stage. Their songs have been arranged in a way that portrays intimacy even when a massive dose of fuzzed guitars and hard drums start poring in the recording. Lyric wise, they talk about aspects that go way further than the typical rhetoric of rock music. No I love you , I hate you songs. Or come and go songs. Instead lyrics that talk about anxiety, self help and other inspirational topics. For example, their song "Ver El Fin" (See the Ending) starts with these lyrics: "I have to approach hate as an enemy"....

CERATI - Open Those Eyes Again - Some of my memories of Gustavo Cerati

Image
Cerati - Open Those Eyes Again - Some of my memories of Gustavo Cerati I've decided to put together this post in a hurry, given the horrendous news published today June 16 by Argentina's Clarin Newspaper trackback dariointernet.com regarding the health of Gustavo Cerati Dear Genius Songwriter : I wish you wake up soon and will read this. In 1993 I was living in California and Gustavo had just released an album called "Amor Amarillo". In the latino market there, Spanish Language rock music was still not mainstream and most latino stores concentrated mainly on ballads and Salsa music. Spanish language rock CD's would be released in small quantities and where hard to find. So I went to the store and asked the girl behind the counter for Gustavo Cerati which she had never heard of. Then she asked what I wished she didn't: The title of the LP. A bit embarrassingly I said: "Amor Amarillo". She responded: "What weird names they put ...

Jimi Jamison Live in Madrid 29 Nov 09 - Concert review and sample

Image
Jimi Jamison Live in Madrid 29 Nov 09 - Concert review and sample His voice was so smooth and beautiful. The show was excelent. A little known spanish band - I don't think they are recording artists - called Indicco acted as first the opening band and then as the backing band for Jimi and they really did a fantastic job. It sounded great. This is a great way to bring over an artist who can come by himself with the addition of his main guitar player and a local band can provide the rest. Jimi's voice was at its best. Sometimes it was just better to be quiet so one could hear that beautiful voice. The spanish band had prepaired all Jimi's hits from Survivor on, including tracks that are not typically in Jimi's set like Rebel Son. They also played tracks from the new album like my favorite "Alive" and as a bonus they did a cover of ZZ Top's "Gimme All your Lovin" for which Jimi was the original backup singer. Very tight show. Oh, somebody gave...

Jimi Jamison (Survivor) en Madrid + July street concerts in Madrid: Paola e Chiara + Olga Tañon

Image
Jimi Jamison (Survivor) en Madrid + July street concerts in Madrid: Paola e Chiara + Olga Tañon Jimi Jamison is one of the most famous rock vocalists ever. Straight forward rock is not my style, but even so, Jimi's voice is so beautiful that I have been following his career, record by record since I was a little kid. He was the vocalist of Vital Signs by Survivor, one of the best rock albums of the 80's. He will be performing in Madrid 29 of November 2009. Jimi Jamison Official Site trackback dariointrnet.com I use the site NVIVO to track concerts occasionally. By the way, Jimi Jamison is an active recording artist even today. Ticket stubs of legendary live Concerts

Image
Concert Ticket Stubs from the past dariointernet.com Summary : I've already lost many of the concert ticket stubs of shows I've been to in the past. Like the one for Midnight Oil in San Francisco, the first Googoosh concert I went to which was the one in Oakland, which was her first in the US. I've also lost tickts stubs of concerts by El Ultimo de la Fila, mexican band Maldita Vecindad, etc. In the U.S. unfortunatelly when you buy a concert ticket they just give you this boring tiny ticket which has no photo or anything interesting, so I might have just threw them away. Here are pictures of some of the concert tickets I was able to save. Above: Kid Creole and the coconuts Madrid 1990 ? 2 de Mayo Probably In Joy Eslava . I think the venue had changed Above: Erasure .Los Angeles The Wiltern Theatre November 24 1992 Concert for their Chorus LP + Abbaesque EP Amazing show I think it was called Phantasmagorical tour Above. Bay Area past fotos + more Sylvester

Image
Last night I saw the movie MILK so I became a bit nostalgic about the Bay Area where I spent many years of my life. Now with the shitty weather we have in Madrid, I miss California's sunshine more than ever. Though the reality is that the grass is always greener on the other side. So anyway, in my nostalgic mode I went to recover some old photos from San Francisco. Unfortunately most of the pictures I took there were in the 90s and back then I used a normal camera that uses a negative and I also don't appear in the pics so they are annonymous. Its funny that despite all efforts to keep backups on hard drives and Cd's, how easitly the material gets lost. It took me hours to recover these fotos. These ones are not that old, but at least I'm in them. It was towards the END of my US stay, right before leaving for good. They are all from January 2004, a very horrible time in my life. Above: Haight street in San Francisco Above: Early morning in front of the City Hall San...

Madrid: Concert Venue shut by right wing mayor & governor because of some brat rich yuppi kid

Image
Madrid: Concert Venue shut by right wing mayor & governor because of some brat rich yuppi kid I'm starting to really hate this city. The city already had a shortage of concert venues. This actually caused many artists to not play in Madrid. Now on top of that the local government (Right wing PP) has shut one of the only remaining ones. La Riviera venue has been shut down. What is most annoying is what prompted this closure. The closure of this venue and couple of others was prompted because some brat yuppi rich kid was killed at a completely unrelated venue frequented by other equally annoying brat rich kids. It is very unfortunate that the boy got killed. After all he was very young. But he caused the incident by being abnoxious and drunk and thinking that he can get away with anything which is probably what he learned from having everything so easily thanks to his rich parents. Still I wish he was alive so he could have learned from his own mistake. As you may know ...

Olga Tañon in Milano Italy ( Italia )

Image
I was on the bus shuttle from Milano's Centrale Station to the Malpensa Airport. Anyone else agree with me that Malpensa is one of the worst airports in the western world?? Why is it sooooooo far from the town? Why does the bus have to go thru small roads to get to it?? Obviously the metro cant reach it because it is so ridiculously far from the city! Anyway, the goddamn bus was moving thru milano when my eye caught for a few seconds a poster on the wall for a concert in Milano by non other than Puerto Rico's Tropical legend: Olga Tañon !! The poster looked a bit used by then, so as it turned out the concert had happened long before. The bus was moving so I was unable to take a picture. You can see a bit of the poster on her back in this image: But, imagine my shock!!! Olga Tañon doesn't play in Spain, because she is unknown here and they don't play her on the radio. But she is playing in Milano!!! These concerts are organized by latinoamericando and their website ...

Doesn't this look fishy??

Image
It is July 16. This poster has been up in the center of town for about two weeks already. It is for two concerts in the venue Palacio de Deportes which is a rather large venue. Ten thousand people is the capacity of the place. The concerts are in December and the poster already came out of print with a note saying the first night is already sold-out. Really?? Its a concert in December almost 5 months away. So hard to believe for a band like el Barrio. One of those spanish bands who had 1 nice song and then all the rest of their songs sound exactly the same with the text or tempo slightly changed but the exact same melody.
