World Cup Trophy Parade July 12 2010 Madrid Spain My photos and video I went to see the truck with the players of Spain holding the World Cup trophy. Here are the pictures and video I took. Dario M: By the time the Champions truck reached the corner of San Bernardo and Gran Via it was 9:15 pm. I doubt the truck can reach the final stage before 11 PM Dario: The World Cup passed 10 feet in front of me. It is shiny. Dario: Iniesta and Torres look like little kids. Iker looked really tired and there were girls chasing the truck calling his name! It was funny. The extra goal keeper and Pique where the ones partying the most and playing with the crowd. Video:

Correos - Spain's Postal services abusive prices dariointernet.com Summary : Plus a picture disc by LIME - synthpop - in action Recently I sold an LP record on eBay to someone in the U.S. From having looked at similar sales on eBay it appeared that the average shipping price for an LP ( 12") would be around $10. So that's the amount I asked for. Then I took the package to Spain's postal service Correos for shipping. I was told the postage would be 17 Euros !!!! That is 24 dollars !! Needless to say, I lost money on the eBay Sale. This is another example on how everything in Spain is out of proportion more expensive than everywhere else while peoples incomes are still embarrasingly low. As a proof that postal charges are not that high elsewhere in the world, last week I received an LP just like the one I shipped, from France containing a picture disc LP from LIME Look closely and you will see that the La Poste France stamp shows 4 Euros . Spain's Banks Enter the Real Estate Market Lots of noise, little substance dariointernet.com Summary : 2009 The Quality of journalism in Spain is rather low if compared with that of journalism in the United States. For example, recently Spain's printed media published front page articles announcing with maximum flair and excitement that Spain's banks have entered the Real Estate Market offering apartments with major discounts . I would think a journalist before writing such garbage, should go and check if what the banks claim is actually happening! But since they didn't bother to check, I did it myself. What I found out was that these Banks overly exaggerate their claims and there is very little truth to their claims. In any case, even if there are discounts , they are on housing that is at a price range that is out of the reach of the typical Spaniard. So they are not solving anyones problems by giving a 30% discount on a property priced at 290,000 Euros....

Real Estate in Spain : Stretching the word beautiful Look at this Real Estate ad for a tiny apartment in Madrid . The ad starts this way: Preciosa buhardilla ... "preciosa" being the spanish word for beautiful .   Now, once you click on the picture it enlarges and this is what it looks enlarged: If you notice anything beautiful about it, let me know, cause I don't see anything beautiful in there. Where is the window??? !!! And the price also stretches the word ridiculous. Obviously the crisis has not gone far enough in Spain. 2009 Spain Electrical Bill Pure suit and tie robbery dariointernet.com There have been recent changes to the electrical bill that spaniards receive. Originally the bills were once every two months, but starting February 2009 they are billing once a month. AND they have hiked up the rates officially 15%. That's officially, but in practice it looks like the bill has doubled . Here is my bill for just 1 month usage: It is 78 Euros for just one month. We are talking 78Euros for one month for a tiny studio apartment for a single working person who is not home half the time!!!!! Other people with actually families have received $300 Euro charges. My landlord first announced the amount to me over the phone. Then when she came to collect the money, she goes: "¿Se te ha pasado el disgusto?" ( i.e. Have you gotten over it?.) This is pure suit & tie robbery . These companies executives are the highest paid, then they go asking ...

The general concept is that one of the strong points of Spain would be its supposedly sunshiny weather. However, I am starting to miss California. The weather here in Madrid is really cold from October till mid April. That is more than 7 months a year. Yesterday it was 1 degrees celsius / 29 F during daytime and minus zero at night. And today its snowing hard. If we consider that it is as cold in Madrid as in Norway, then the city looses its attractiveness. Here are some pictures I took on my way to work and my view right now.

My stomach is not in good shape this morning and I'm in pain. I nervously had too many chips with soda while watching the Eurocup final. Then with the heat and the noise of the illegal fireworks it wasn't easy to sleep. Its warm and one is still scared to turn on the air conditioning. The electricity bill was already high in Spain, now they have increased it 11%. The stupid Minister of economy has the nerves to say that the price increase will provoke "responsible usage". Right! The only thing it provokes in me is anger and a desire to kick someone in the balls. Balls which he doesnt have since he misserably lost in the local elections last time. Oh, on the cute note, a co-worker of mine went to Austria to see the final game between Spain and Germany. He was caught on a video on the front page of one of Spains most famous sport magazines (in it's internet version).
