I've cried a good bit today from the news of Lucio Dalla's passing .... AAaaahhh... I feel a bit more lonely.. Only a few weeks earlier another big name in Italian songwriting Giancarlo Bigazzi had passed away. He was an amazing lyricist whose lyrics were not the typical love song lyrics but rather multi layered lyrics that added observance of rough social realities to the songs. Most notably he co-wrote Self Control, Gloria, etc.

They are one of Italy's biggest rock bands. Not really my style .. I prefer Pierro Pelu .. and the more melodic stuff. But still interesting. Larger than life, Gloria Trevi wins over the crowd in Madrid There are definitly artists that are larger than life and out of this planet. Mexico's Gloria Trevi is one of them. She won me over when in the early 90's I saw a clip of a live performance of her at Chile's Viña del Mar festival where she would cry and scream on stage. Last night she performed in Madrid, and her mini-performance was so powerful that she made me feel suddenly alive again. The place was packed and people went absolutely crazy for her. Even those who didn't know who she was quickly realized that she's not an ordinary artist from the pack but a mega semi-god superstar. And look, I've seen many artists on stage, including Michael Jackson who I saw in 1988 during his BAD tour. The concert was at the Vicente Calderon Football stadium. Michael was distant and was not able to establish any connection with the audience. Everything was pre recorded and as soon as he could he fled off...

The italian singer Al Ba G no has said that he will no longer kiss-up with his (new) wife in front of his daughter, so that she doesn't feel embarrased of him once they end up divorcing!! The italian singer Mike Francis (Real name: Francesco Puccioni ) passed away January 30th, 2009. Many of us loved his music in the 80's. Back then he had a big hit also here in Spain, played on Radio Vinilo , called Survivor . Also the song Friends with Aimii Stewart was big here too. He was big also in many far east Asian countries like Philipines. I also liked his first italian language album. Check the clip:

Daniel Vangarde ( Bangalter ) is a French songwriter and producer. He is the father Thomas of Daft Punk. In the early 1970s Vangarde worked with Sheila B. Devotion with fellow writer and producer Jean Kluger. He released the LP Le Monde Fabuleux Des Yamasuki, containing the song "Aieaoa" ( "Aie a Mwana" ) rerecorded later by Bananarama, becoming their first UK hit. Vangarde's main international successes came later in the 1970s, as writer and producer with Ottawan and the Gibson Brothers ("Cuba").
